Ovelha, Lobos e Cães Pastores (Uma Reflexão apenas)...

OVELHAS, LOBOS e CÃES PASTORES: Autor: Dave Grossman, Ten Cel, Ranger, Ph.D., Autor de "On Killing"
Deixe-me desenvolver o excelente modelo de ovelhas, lobos e cães daquele velho soldado.
Ainda assim, o cão pastor incomoda a ovelha.
Você quer tentar fazer a diferença.
A negação mata você duas vezes.
Com o Tradutor Google: SHEEP , WOLVES and SHEPHERD DOGS : Author : Dave Grossman , Lt Col , Ranger , Ph.D. , author of "On Killing "
A Vietnam veteran , an old retired colonel , once said to me : " Most people in our society are sheep They are productive , kind, loving creatures that only hurt one another by accident . . "
This is true . Remember, the murder rate is six per 100,000 per year , and the rate of serious assaults is 4 per 1000 per year . What this means is that the overwhelming majority of Americans are not inclined to hurt one another .
Some estimates say that two million Americans are victims of violent crimes every year . A tragic figures , scary , perhaps a record in terms of violent crime . But there are almost 300 million Americans , which means that the chances of being a victim of violent crime is still considerably less than one in a hundred on any given year . Still , like many violent crimes are committed by the same people , the actual number of violent citizens is considerably less than two million .
There is a paradox here , and we should get both sides of the situation : We may be living in the most violent times in history , but violence is still surprisingly rare . This is because most citizens are kind , decent people who are not able to hurt each other , except by accident or under extreme provocation . They are sheep .
I do not want to say anything negative when I call them sheep . For me the situation is like that of a bird 's egg . On the inside it is soft and gooey but someday it will grow into something wonderful . But the egg can not survive without its hard shell . Police , soldiers and other warriors are like that shell , and someday the civilization they protect will become something wonderful . For now , they need warriors to protect them from predators .
" Then there are the wolves ," the old war veteran , " and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy . " Do you believe there are wolves out there who will feed on the flock without mercy? It's good to have you believe . There are evil men in this world who are capable of evil things . AT THE MOMENT THAT YOU FORGET THAT , OR PRETEND THAT THIS IS NOT TRUE , YOU BECOME A SHEEP . There is no safety in denial .
" Then there are sheepdogs ," he continued , " and I 'm a sheepdog . I live to protect the flock and confront the wolf . "
If you have no capacity for violence then you are a healthy productive citizen, a sheep . If you have a capacity for violence and no empathy for your fellow citizens , then you are an aggressive sociopath , a wolf . But what if you have a capacity for violence and a deep love for his countrymen ? What do you have then? A sheepdog , a warrior , someone who walks the path of the hero. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness , into the universal human phobia, and leave again .
Let me develop excellent model of the sheep , wolves and dogs that old soldier. We know that the sheep live in denial of reality , and that is what makes them sheep . They do not want to accept the fact that there is evil in this world . They can accept the fact that fires can happen , which is why they want fire extinguishers , sprinklers , alarms and fire exits all over the place in the schools of their children .
But many of them are outraged at the idea of putting an armed police officer in the school their children . Our children are thousands of times more likely to be killed or seriously injured by school violence than by fire, but the sheep's only response to the possibility of violence is denial. The idea that someone comes to kill or harm their children is very hard , so they choose the path of denial.
The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog . He looks a lot like the wolf . He has fangs and the capacity for violence . The difference being, however , is that the sheepdog must not , can not and will not ever harm the sheep . Any sheepdog who intentionally hurt the lamb will be punished and removed. The world can not work any other way , at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours.
Still, the sheepdog disturbs the sheep . He is a constant reminder that there are wolves out there . The sheep would prefer that he did not tell you where to go , do not give him fines and even stayed at airports , in camouflage fatigues and holding an M -16 . The sheep would prefer that the dog kept his claws and teeth , painted himself white and said, " Baa "
Until the wolf shows . Then the entire flock tries desperately to hide behind one dog.
The students , the victims , at Columbine High School were teenagers , big and tough . Under ordinary circumstances , they never spend some time of their day to say something to a cop. They were not bad kids, they just do not have anything to say to a cop. When the school was under attack , however , and SWAT teams were entering the rooms and hallways , the officers had to practically tear teens who clung to his legs , crying . This is how the little lambs feel about her when shepherds dogs when the wolf is at the door .
Look at what happened after September 11 , when the wolf pounded hard on the door . Remember how America , more than ever before , felt differently about their law enforcement and military ? Do you remember how many times he heard the word " hero " ?
Understand that there is nothing morally superior about being a sheepdog ; 's just what you choose to be. Further understand that a sheepdog is a funny creature . He is always sniffing the perimeter , barking at things that go bump in the night , and yearning for a battle . The young dogs yearn for a battle , you better say . The old dogs are smarter , but at the sound of the guns and realize they are needed they move immediately , along with the youth .
It is here that the sheep and dogs think differently . The sheep pretend the wolf will never come , but the dog lives for that day . After the September 11 attacks , most of the sheep , that is, most citizens in America said , "Thank God I was not on one of those planes." The shepherds , warriors , dogs said , " My God, I wish I had been on one of those planes . Maybe I could have made a difference . " When you are truly transformed into a warrior , you want to be there . You want to try to make a difference .
There is nothing morally superior about the dog , the warrior , but he takes advantage of something. Just one. And this advantage is that it is able to survive in an environment or situation that destroys 98 % of the population .
There was a survey a few years ago with individuals convicted of violent crimes . These cons were in prison for serious , predatory acts of violence : assaults , murders and killing cops . The VAST MAJORITY SAID chose his VICTIMS BY BODY LANGUAGE : FLOOR sloppy, LIABILITIES AND BEHAVIOR LACK OF ATTENTION TO THE ENVIRONMENT . They chose their victims like big cats do in Africa , when they select one that seems least able to defend themselves.
Some people seem destined to be sheep and others might be genetically selected to be wolves or dogs . But I believe that most people can choose which one they want to be , and I 'm proud to say that more and more Americans are choosing to be dogs .
Seven months after the attack of September 11 , Todd Beamer was honored in his hometown of Cranbury , New Jersey . Todd , as you recall, was the man on Flight 93 over Pennsylvania who called his cell phone to alert an operator from United Airlines about the hijacking . When he heard that three other planes had been used as weapons , Todd dropped his phone and uttered the words " Let's roll," which authorities believe was a signal to the other passengers to confront the hijackers . In one hour, a transformation occurred among the passengers - athletes , business people and parents - from sheep to shepherds dogs and together they fought the wolves , saving an unknown number of lives on the ground .
" There is no salvation for the honest man , but to wait all possible evil of evil men . " - Edmund Burke
Here is the point I like to emphasize , especially to the thousands of police and soldiers for whom we speak every year . In nature the sheep , real sheep , are born that way . Dogs are born, and wolves . They do not have a chance . But you are not a creature . You are human , and as such can be anything you want . It is a conscious moral decision .
If you want to be a sheep , then you can be a sheep and that is okay , but you must understand the price you pay . When the wolf comes , you and the people you love will die if there is no police around to protect him . If you want to be a wolf , all right , but the shepherds shall hunt and you will never have rest, safety, trust or love . But if you want to be a sheepdog walking on the warrior's path , then you must make a conscious decision to dedicate yourself DAILY , equip and prepare yourself for that toxic, corrosive moment when the wolf comes knocking at your door .
How many police officers , for example , carry guns to church ? They are well concealed in ankle holsters , shoulder holsters , inside the belt or back. Anytime you are in worship or at Mass , there is a good chance that a police officer in your congregation is armed . You never know whether there was such an individual in your place of worship, until the wolf appears to massacre you and the people you love.
I was training a group of police officers in Texas , and during the break , one officer asked his friend if he carried a gun to church . The other replied " I will never disarmed the church " I asked why he had such a strong opinion about it , and he told me about a cop he knew who was in a massacre at a church in Fort Worth , Texas , in 1999. In that incident, a mentally unbalanced person entered the church and opened fire , killing fourteen people. He said that the officer believed he could have saved every life that day if he had been carrying his gun . His own son was hit , and all he could do was throw himself on the boy's body and wait to die . That cop looked me in the eyes and said " Do you have any idea how hard it is to live with yourself after that?
Some would be horrified if they knew this police officer was armed in church. They 'd call him paranoid and probably admoestariam . Yet these same individuals would be enraged and would ask " heads to roll " if they found out the air bags to their cars were defective , or that the fire extinguisher in their children's schools did not work . They can accept the fact that fire and traffic accidents can happen and that there must be safeguards against them.
The only answer them to the wolf, though, is denial, and often their only response to the sheepdog is scorn and ridicule . But the sheepdog quietly asks himself , " Do you have any idea how hard it would be to live with yourself if your loved ones were attacked and killed , and you stood there helplessly because you are unprepared for that day ? "
It is denial that turns people into sheep . Sheep are psychologically destroyed by combat because their only defense is denial, which is counterproductive and destructive , resulting in fear, helplessness and horror when the wolf appears .
Denial kills you twice. Kills one , at the moment of truth when you are not physically prepared : you did not bring your gun , not trained . Your only defense was wishful thinking . Hope is not a strategy . Denial kills you a second time because even if you do physically survive , you are psychologically shattered by your fear, helplessness and horror at the moment of truth .
Gavin de Becker puts it like this in " Fear Less" , his superb book written after the September 11 , required reading for anyone trying to understand the current global situation : . " ... Denial can be seductive , but it has an effect insidious side . Though all the peace of mind that those who deny the reality supposedly achieve by saying that things are not as serious as well , falling suffer when they come face to face with violence is even more disturbing . "
Denial is a situation of " save now pay later ," a deception , only a written contract in fine print . In the long run , the denying person just knowing the truth on some level .
Thus , the warrior must strive to confront denial in all aspects of his life , and prepare for the day when evil will come.
If you are a warrior who is legally authorized to carry a weapon and you go out without taking that weapon , then you become a sheep , pretending that the bad man will not come today. No one can be connected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week , a lifetime . Everyone needs time to rest. But if you are authorized to carry a weapon and you go out without it , take a deep breath and say to yourself :
" Beeeeeee ... "
This history of being a sheep or a sheepdog is not a question of yes or no . Is not an all or nothing . It is a matter of steps , a continuum . On one side is a despicable sheep with fully threaded head on the ground , and on the other hand is the complete warrior. There are few people who are completely on one side or the other. Most of us live somewhere in between . Since Sep 11 , almost everyone in America took a step up that continuum , away from denial - . The sheep took a few steps toward accepting and appreciating their warriors , and the warriors started to treat their work more seriously . The degree to which you move up that continuum , away from the " ovelhice " and denial , is the degree to which you will be prepared to defend yourself and your loved ones , physically and psychologically , the moment of truth .
